Maggie was my favorite character (spoilers)

She was the one rational person who had to keep everyone else from falling apart. She constantly has to deal with her alcoholic sister and the threat of her husband's criminal activities, all while having to ignore the fact that Freddy raped her and having to pretend that little Jimmy was Jimmy's son. I thought Charlotte Riley did a great job portraying her. I love the confrontation she has with Jackie at her salon where she calls Jackie "sh!t for brains". A lot of the characters were either stupid, crazy, or criminals. Jimmy was a smart, well balanced guy, and you could tell he loved his family, but he was still a criminal. Maggie was the one person who deserved a happy ending, and it seems like she got it.

Yeah, she was pretty cool.I never saw the end of this show because I just got sick of it. The rape was the worst part of the show. But what rape?I mean,I saw Freddie grab Maggie by the hair and drag her into the room.

Then we see the phone ring and Jimmy leaves a message. Then we see Freddie kissing Maggie's breasts and she says "Jimmy's going to kill you.",which I wish he had.

Maggie killing him was justice, but I never saw the final episode so I don't know how this show ended.

Maggie wasn't even THAT attractive.I don't understand Freddie's attraction to her.I absolutely hated Freddie,he was just so terrible, and Tom Hardy's portrayal of him was almost unbearable!!!

Yes, he raped her. She just felt like she couldn't do anything about it. I think Freddie was obsessed with Maggie because she hated him so much. All these other women flocked to him, but Maggie was repulsed him.

I thought Charlotte Riley's performance was the best. I wasn't expecting to like her though, because she annoyed me in Wuthering Heights.

Well,I'm not sure how obssession translates into rape.If he REALLY wanted her to flock to him he should have worked harder to earn her respect.

Plus, the rape scene was really stupid, maybe even worse than the one in Showgirls.

If the producers were smart they should have left out that scene and had Freddie killed by the Turkish drug dealers the day after the ecstasy deal.

Charlotte was great in this movie. The rape scene was probably the most intense scene in the movie. I hated it, but it revealed Freddy as a thug & bully. Its why I disliked Freddy.

reply

I'm not sure but I don't think a guy has to be attracted to the person to rape them. Maybe not in this instance though.

I have a gross question though. Did he spit on her when he raped her? It seemed like it but I was kinda freaked out when I saw it and didn't look again.

Sorry if that's too gross

reply

Yup freddie is a spitter and I think it kind of let her sister know she was telling the truth.

I agree to some extent. Let's just say she was the least evil. But still, she knew damn well that Jimmy was a murdering criminal and she certainly didn't have a problem spending the ill-gotten gains.

reply

Well, you have to remember that they come from a criminal family. Jackie and Maggie's father was a criminal. Freddie's father was a criminal and Freddie's daughter was marrying a criminal.

So this was all second nature to her.

Maggie was also my favorite character. She was a very strong female character. Maggie wasn't scared or intimidated by Freddie (at first). I love when she confronts him at the club. Of course, this had awful consequences but only because Freddie is a psycho. I love that it's Maggie and Jackie that do Freddie in. He deserved to die at their hands more than anyone else's.

Charlotte Riley put in a great performance. Really like her a lot.

I would have written it differently.I would have Maggie make some kind of deal with the Turkish Drug Dealers to get Freddie OUT of her sister's life permanently.

She saw what being with Freddie was doing to Jackie,so she goes to the Turkish drug dealer and tells them that Freddie was the one who shot their man at the ecstasy deal. She then asks them to kill him, which they would have done any way.

The Turkish drug dealers would probably ask something of her, even though they were going to kill Freddie any way.

They could ask her for information on Ozzy's deals or tell her that in the future they will ask a favor of her and she HAS to do it.

The Turkish drug dealers would hunt down and kill Freddie before he found out about Jimmy doing the ecstasy deal without him.So Freddie wouldn't have had the chance to rape anybody.

Of course somewhere along the way Jackie and Jimmy find out about her involvement in Freddie's murder.Jackie is understanding as Maggie had good intentions, but Jimmy isn't so forgiving. He lashes out at her and threatens her but luckily Maggie is under the protection of the Turkish drug dealers as she is an asset to them.

One of their men takes Jimmy out easily.Maggie is distraught yet grateful.Maggie and Jackie take advantage of the situation and become rich using Jimmy's and Freddie's ill gotten gains.

There is only ONE loose end:Ozzie. The Turkish drug dealers reach out to someone in the prison and have him killed.

Maggie and Jackie take over Ozzie's empire and work with the Turkish drug dealers and are very successful.

The End.
