the ending was pathetic in my opinion and unreal

so the grandfather sees his older grandchild kill his youngest grandchild but keeps it a secret from his own daughter, yea right, how pathetic and unreal is that, how many grandfathers do you know will do that?

maggie gets raped and tortured andyet never reveals it to her husband even though her sister finds out.

she then kills freddie but again doesnt tell him.

maggie doesnt know her own child mwas killed by her nephew yet her stupid husband doesnt tell her or her sister.

im sorry but i was enjoying this show until the last episode ruined it. why did that little brat get away with murder?

I think Jimmy thought Jackie killed him but didnt say unless he thought ozzy was lying about not ordering a hit..He probably thought that his wife wouldn't have been capable of violence unless somehow he knew everything but never told..It is hard to believe that he never suspected anything..But I guess the two sisters covered up everything up very well..
That little boy freddie was damaged emotionally he needed professional help. I was surprised that Jackie was still alive at the end..She was so addicted to pills.. I guess she found peace when she went away and perhaps was able to find a normal life perhaps.

I think that the grandfather didn't tell because he understood why little Freddie did it (emotionally damaged, etc.). He wanted what had happened to be sorted out between the grown-ups...

I think that Maggie never told what happened because she was probably afraid that Jimmy wouldn't believe her - Jimmy and Freddie were extremely close, and she probably believed that he would believe him over her.

She killed Freddie and didn't tell him because she knew that she could get away with it - anyone could have killed a guy like Freddie, so why tell Jimmy when it could cause problems in their marriage?

Jimmy probably didn't want to tell Maggie because he didn't want his wife to endure the agony of learning that her child was killed by the nephew of her very beloved sister...even though in the end, I do believe that he still had plans for little Freddie...

I enjoyed the ending. There was defintely an opening for a sequel if there isn't already one.

thanks for youyr responses especially LHC, i understand little freddie was deepresed about being rejected by his own dad in favour of his younger cousin/brother and i understand the grandfather trying to protect his family but come on, the freddie boy did not show no remorse and evan if he had so called issues he should have been taken into care or a hospital or something and been told what he did was wrong. at the end of the day a little 4 year old boy was murdered, he didnt deserve to be killed or hurt and did nothing wrong, the only person who deserved to die was freddie as he caused all this problem and i never understood why he didnt care about little freddie as much as little jimmy. we now live in a society where people make too many excuses for murdererersn and rapists. when i was 8 years old i new that murder was wrong, an 8 year old is not the same as a 3 year old.

the reality is that maybe evan freddie needed phsycological help too, afterall he wanted everything that his younger cousin wanted. freddie cared for all his family deep down im sure, and im sure he evan cared about his own wife but he just wasnt in love with her like he was with maggie. its sad that thy all seemed to come from terrible backgrounds and it will obviously likely be past down to generation after the other like many families.

but sometimes its about the friends you hang around with too, because both maggie and her sister seem to have been brought up in loving working class families with two parents that loved each other, while freddie came from a broken home with his mum and abusive father.

the book goes into more depth about the reasonings for not informing maggie and the police about little jimmys death. The ending of the book is different and in my opinion better and makes more sense, I think sky rushed the last part and could have easily make it into a five parter.

i reckon i should read that book and will but it when i get money.

I am reading the book now Writersanon, it's a real page turner

I also agree that they could have easily made a couple more episodes- a sequel would be good, tie up the loose ends so to speak.

It says at the front of the book that Sky1 are going to adapt Martina Cole's The Graft too.

It was obvious that the grandfather did not actually witness freddie jr suffocate jimmy jr - it was the fact that the bag was tied that was the giveaway.
The nature of families that are bonded by crime means that they would want to deal with the situation in their own inimitable way...and certainly not involve the police!!
It was also pretty obvious that Jimmy Sr probably thought that Freddie Sr had been 'dealt' with - his descent into achieving his aims by violence instead of brains meant that freddie jr was certainly in his sights - hence Maggie's sister not telling where she had moved to (the question undoubtedly being asked on Jimmy Sr's suggestion).
All seems quite reasonable, in context of course.....

I just watched The Take as i'm a fan of Martina's, although i enjoyed this probably more than i thought i would, i was a little disappointed by the ending, i wanted a bit more of an explosive end to it all but it never happened but was definitely worth the watch

You make a LOT of good points. When Maggie says "Jimmy's going to kill you." that's exactly what I expected to happen.

That's what SHOULD have happened. She should have told him straight away.

With Freddie dead, lil' Freddie would never have killed lil' Jimmy.

I get that the rape is part of the story, even though I didn't like it.But there should be more consequences to Freddie's actions.

Jimmy kills Freddie.Jackie is either relieved or upset.Maggie would then explain to her about the whole rape thing.

Jackie is understanding, but is angry at the fact that Maggie telling Jimmy about Freddie raping her is what got Freddie killed.

lil' Jimmy and lil' Freddie grow up together and stay good friends.Maggie and Jimmy have another child which is Jimmy's.

This to me is a more acceptable way of ending this story.
