Predictable, but Enjoyable
No spoilers here but I'm seeing a lot of reviews mentioning this was a predictable plot and I'll agree completely.
Even with knowing the plot pretty early on I still enjoyed the show. I don't watch Kevin Hart in standup or movies, but from what little I've seen/known of him is he's kind of the loudmouth character/clown type comedy act. I saw the quick preview on Netflix and wanted to watch this solely to give him a shot as the role was clearly much more serious.
Watch it for that alone. He plays the role very well (unsure if it was written/cast just for him) and I would say everyone involved does their part, no weak major roles in the movie. He takes well to the serious, drama bit. I think you'll appreciate Hart in a serious role and Snipes back on screen.
We burned through all 7 episodes in a row. They run fast after the first episode, a full hour and then only half hour episodes. The episodes aren't filler - they get to the point. The plot moves forward and I like the use of minimal cuts in the scenes - I think it helps to pull you into the conversations happening and things advance at a good pace for the whole series.
I'll say that because of how the events tend to unfold at times I felt a bit anxious, cringe for the characters which is a good thing. I don't normally get invested into things like this and while it's not the greatest crime drama to ever unfold, clearly something was pulling me in to feel that for such a straightforward show.
It's a crime drama, there's some suspense and thriller aspects as you follow along, but don't expect anything revolutionary with the watch.
Burn through it in a night, it's a good one time watch just to follow the tale.
