who actually asked for a reboot?

I'm not a gamer at all (unless you count 'Tetris' on my Sega Megadrive) nor a fan of the Angelina Jolie movies (but I'm assuming those previous movies were released the height of the games popularity?) But despite decent (but not spectacular) box office receipts.......I'm struggling to see who has asked for a reboot here?

Has this been made, merely as a plug to sell more games?
I don't see who the audience is here?

Please do (because I have no intention of seeing it myself) but (despite such misgivings) are fascinated as to why it was greenlit?

I promised not to talk about this,until then.As you can see i'm fan of this franchise,when they said "based on...",they lied.

The games were rebooted. This has been made to cash in on the popularity and success of those new games.
