done with the movie. I'm actually more disapointed then before, Idris Elba played such a small part...
For all blind people: this was a great disturbing movie, but because of its script (written and directed by a white guy, born in US, with Japanese ancestry!). Acting was far from great! But because the movie/script/direction/subject were obviously different and disturbing, people tend to confuse...
It seems nobody understands that the film was boycotted by US cinema chains because Netflix insisted on a day and date release on their streaming without giving exhibitors the usual 90-day window for a proper theatrical release. Netflix managed to get it on 31 screens the first week where it tanked, falling to 21 screens the second week before it promptly disappeared from cinemas because of course anybody who wanted to see it watched it at home.
The film industry is under no obligation to support a streaming platform over the nation's exhibitors. Netflix plan backfired. The omission has nothing to do with race but of course the SJWs masters of manufactured outrage don't want to hear that. Thanks for ruining the Oscars!
It wasn't much of a boycott, netflix only wanted a limited theatre run in order to allow the film to qualify for awards.
None of the nation's 5 biggest cinema chains will run Netflix films because they insist on a day and date release on their streaming platform. They're already boycotting Netflix's Crouching Tiger sequel and Netflix lost the rights to Nate Parker's Sundance hit The Birth of A Nation for the same reason. Netflix could only get 31 screens because of the boycott. Beasts of No Nation was likely snubbed at the Oscars for the same reason. This will certainly continue to effect Netflix's relationships with filmmakers.
shareCinema has been slowly dying since television picked up. Streaming platforms are expected to have a similar effect. As for netflix, it doesn't really matter, they're not that bothered about Cinemas. They only wanted the attention from Beasts to attract more people to subscribe.
shareMad Max deserved the nomination
shareI also had a slow start on the scandal. At that point, I'd only seen Creed... and did not feel that deserved any noms except maybe Stallone, but not even. But I've since watched Concussion, which was excellent, tho not great, but certainly deserving of 3-4 noms.
But tonight I watched BonN and was totally blown away. Every technical aspect of this film was done very very well, and the acting was superb from both leads.
I have one #OscarsSoWhite snub left to watch... I expect I'll feel even stronger about this after.
***So I've seen 4 movies/wk in theatre for a 1/4 century, call me crazy?**
