A lot crammed into 3 hours
I felt like I'd watched 2-3 seasons of a sci-fi show in the span of 3 hours when I saw this earlier.
It's a prequel to The Wandering Earth and had lots of great visuals and intense action scenes, but also poorly written, shallow dialogue (not sure if it was lost in translation), in-depth technical stuff that could've been watered down to not make it seem like a behind-the-scenes doco at times and too fast a pace that makes you unable to let the gravitas of a scene or incident sink in, before the next crazy thing happens. Shin Godzilla is a great example of how to intersperse dialogue, politics and action, and pace it properly.
Liked it more than a lot of Hollywood's similar themed attempts like Moonfall. Interested to the see the next one in the series, which will be a sequel to the first movie and hopefully, more about slingshotting Earth around the sun & Jupiter, as well as the interstellar journey.
7.5/10, same as the first movie. Recommend if you like sci-fi & space action.
Could be remade into an awesome sci-fi TV show spanning 3 seasons with a good budget, as long as there is no nauseating political messaging, wokeness and annoying lecturing shoehorned in (in other words, not by Netflix, Disney or Amazon) and the dialogue is re-written to quality.
