Something came to mind after I watched this episode: in Season 5, when Alaska showed up, the others were grilling her about how she felt about Sharon's winning.
She said then that she felt betrayed and bitter beyond belief because she had been trying out for so long and Sharon tried out once and was selected. And then mitigated it by saying when the promo aired, she felt nothing but proud of Sharon. But Alyssa pressed the point by asked that since both were artists, wasn't it extra difficult - and Alaska talked about how viciously they had fought, as they were two huge egos. In All Stars 2, I agree with the poster who pointed out Alaska's sense of entitlement.
When Chad won All Stars Season 1, there was the same feeling on the board that the season was "structured" for Chad to win; and now it appears the same way - if Alaska should have won Season 5 (not to me, I'm a Jinkx fan, always have been and will be) - which would have sparked an outcry anyway, many of us are feeling the same way now.
I usually get the seasons through iTunes so I can rewatch them. I love drag queens and the true art of so much of drag (mostly old school).
Season 3 had an "extra" episode called "Casting Extravaganza" which had clips from submission videos and actual auditions. Detox's audition interview was interesting: between that point in time and now, there is not much evidence of change. Alaska is featured a lot on this extra, talking about auditioning so many times. It's a great episode because you can see a lot of queens who showed up in later seasons (Penny Tration, Dax!, and Katya to name a few).
Alaska is very talented and creative - but the ego and inability to handle not always being in the winners' circle the one time she was in the bottom 2 was completely uncalled for. That meltdown was ridiculous and looked a bit staged - they needed Alaska to show as the "Season 5 Roxxxy" of All Stars.
Roxxxy mainly used this as a vehicle to show how she had changed since Season 5, because of the backlash from her treatment of Jinkx. But it was still a Roxxxy Andrews project as she called it - outside of attitude, there was not much change from her season.
I was rooting for Katya but I knew she had no chance but she had a good run. I wonder if Alyssa had not been eliminated, would she have won this? And would most of us be saying that it also was structured for her to win? We'll never know.
