The sex scene is really HOT...

I have not seen this movie yet (in fact, the first time i heard about this movie, it was browsing MrSkin :P), but the sex scene between Julianne Moore and the other actress (sorry, i forgot her name) looks very authentic and realistic to me.

I have been arguing with some friends about how the hollywood-sex scenes are made (of course, i'm not referring to those from the porno industry, but the mainstream, A-celebs movies), and i guess that when the scene requires a man and a woman, the man (or maybe both) have to use some kind of protection (a piece of cloth maybe?) and/or try not to take it to seriously to avoid any kind of contact between, well, their genitalia (or fluid interchange, for that matter).

But what happens when there are two ladies? (like in this movie), i mean, there is no risk of "dangerous contact" between them, and maybe (just maybe) they can "fell" the scene more deeply and give us a better and more credible performance in this kind of scenes.

What do you think?

Just saw the movie for the first time and I thought that scene was incredible. The other kiss scenes between them were very well done too. Very underrated performances by both Seifreid and Moore in this movie.

But what happens if (as in this movie), one of the actress masturbates the other?... maybe they could just "go with it", i mean, feel the scene as a "real" intercourse act, and perform it better.

Yeah I dont think this is the case. I dont know, but I believe there is some strange rule about this. If they were actually doing it this would get a NC-17 rating. You know, because then it's porn. So these scenes have to be simulated and acted.. They cant actually masturbate each others. Even though we really cant tell how she is touching her, we assumes it's not real since it's a scene with well respected actresses.

They are actors, actual sexual contact is generally not necessary to convey the idea of a sexual interlude.
I'd imagine for most actors and actresses actual onscreen sexual activity is neither desired nor beneficial for their careers.
Amanda Seyfried and Julianne Moore did a credible job in their intimate scene, I don't know if I considered it "hot", but that is because I'm not really into that sort of thing.

I didn't see anything real about it, and it was rather boring considering the two women in the scene. I suppose if you never seen two women kissing it would be hot... Maybe the Starz version is different from the ones you're seeing?

I don;t think the sex scene was all that hot. Julianne moores character really wasnt all that into it

A few things:

First, this is a Canadian flim, not a Hollywood film. Splitting hairs really.

Next, the MPAA which issues American ratings has been frequently criticized for their lack of rules on what constitues each rating.
They view the final cut of the film and issue their rating.
They are not present on set to judge anything that happens out of view of the camera.

A handful of mainstream films have obvious unsimulated sex.
Rumors abound about other films with unsimulated but off camera sex.

One example of actors carrying off an actual sex scene on camera-- Barbara Hershey and David Carradine in BOXCAR BERTHA. Nine months later she bore a son, Free Carradine.

i agree with lword. the sex scene was disgusting. julianne moore was not convincing as a woman a beautiful girl would be infatuated with, looks or personality. it was hard to watch. i thought it was hideous.

I am not afraid of an a$$hole as much as what comes out of it.

It was beautifully done. I don't know how they could do it if they are straight. Acting or not, you would have to be bi to do it
