sure, when i was 16 back in 2001, i was surfing the internet on DSL watching porn and having casual sex with my high school girlfriends...so...yeah...
and the son is 16 in the movie and he's doing what kids do..have sex....so why not watch a movie about sex, love, and relationships...
in fact, i would reccomend this movie because it shows glimpses on how complex relationships get when u get older...

I am biased as I'm 17 and even last year if I had watched this I would've handled it-I was exposed to a lot at a young age and is commonplace but this film was quite graphic and explicit in sexual terms for a film that does not seem...I can't think of the word, but 'out there,' basically. I didn't think it would be as uninhibited as it was but that said, it is what it is and I won't have nightmares about it. If your child is mature about such things and is not entirely new to being exposed to anything sexual, I think he/she would be ok. For the sake of you both however, do not effing watch it together. I can't stress that enough.

emilycrock96, it never gets better...i'm 35 and went to see Black Swan with my mom (who pretty much let us kids watch anything we wanted short of Rated X movies growing up), and i was COMPLETELY uncomfortable sitting there with her during the, ah, Natalie/Mila makeout scene! (great film though)
shareIt was rated 18 in my country so I couldn't have let them watch it at the theatre. But at home, yes I would let my 16 year old watch it. The thing is while the movie is highly sexual, it's not just for the sake of showing sex. It's a deeply complex view of relationships and sex. And at the end of the day it's just a good story.

To sum it up:
Language factor: There's swearing and some use of sexual jargon.
Violence: Small confrontation with a death in the end, but nothing graphic.
Sexuality: There are some bare breast and butt shots in a few scenes, but nothing pornographic. The breast shots aren't meant to be noticed right away.
If I had a 16 year old, I would let him/her watch it because it's nothing traumatizing. Actually, if I had a 16 year old, they would have already seen more than what's in this movie.

shareI would say it's definetly not the type a movie a family should watch together. I'm not going to say it "inappropriate" but at the same time, I don't think a 16yr is going to appriceate or understand the sexual undertones. If it's a boy, he's just going to be thinking "Amanda Seyfried naked, BOOYAH!"
