The character was the most interesting in the film, such an angry, frustrated man who didn't seem to be liked at all by his friends. I would love to have gotten a back story on how he became a Muslim and fell in with these guys.

If I had to guess, I'd say that Barry was possibly a prison convert, obviously new to Islam and I think it was a bit of a swipe at how people view converted Muslims, and also how a Londoner might portray his character of downtrodden Muslim.
If you'll notice, he's always arguing for the sake of argument. I've personally met people like this during my short stay at her majesties Pleasure. People convert to Islam because they're bored, and this gives their life a purpose again.
There's also the protection that comes with it that makes them feel a part of something bigger than themselves.
Now this was just my assessment of Barry, because I honestly know people like him that aren't really taken seriously by Muslims or anyone else! They're tolerated as Muslims because Muslims are strong together, but they're not fully accepted as a true Muslim, plus the Caucasian friends look down at them for converting in the first place.
All in all it was a really good movie that outlines the "true Muslims" from the dickheads who just want to blow themselves up.
I especially liked the end where they had his brother in "Egypt", "with a bunch of angry Egyptians behind that door".
Brilliant.
