Unfunny, Unfunny, Unfunny
Unfunny,
shareUnfunny compared to Chris Morris' other work?
shareI don't know who he is. I knew a Chris Morris, is he Jewish? He was a right *beep* spaz. Nice family though, otherwise.
shareI didn't think you'd know who he was.
He's a British satirist responsible for shows like The Day Today, Brass Eye and Nathan Barley to name a few. He co-wrote and directed Four Lions.
His other work that I've mentioned looks at the way TV news shows operate and Nathan Barley is a look at hipsters.
I'd suggest checking out his work.
Strange that in this day and age, he couldn't just google who Chris Morris is.
Straightedge means I'm better than you.
It's unfunny compared to his other work, and unfunny in absolute terms.
I tried to watch this. I had to turn it off after 25 mins out of boredom. It's just not funny. And I actually tried to like it, because it's been recommended to me by friends and I love Chris Morris and I love Peep Show. But it just isn't funny.
I can see where I'm meant to laugh, but the jokes fall flat. So dull. This is how to get comedy wrong. Poor lines that are badly delivered. I can't help but wonder if the people singing it's praises are seeing the emperor's new clothes. A lot of middle class reviewers who are afraid of being accused of racism if they say they didn't like it, and then the sheep who do the same to fit in. Then you get the Americans who'll say any British comedy is good. The fact it's different from Hollywood productions makes them overlook flaws and try to like it more because it's cool to have niche interests.
Well, that's a shame.
shareNo, it was genuinely funny. You just have a shot sense of humor.
shareCompletely agreed. I hadn't noticed that Bain and Armstrong were involved with this until you mentioned it. I'm a huge Peep Show fan (and an American, incidentally), and I thought this was awful for all the reasons you said.
It certainly doesn't inspire me to discover anything else by Chris Morris, but based on your respect for him, maybe I will.
Really bad. The only funny part was the cops discussing wheather the Wookie and the Honey Monster were bears. Everything else was just an embarrasement. Didn{t buy that a seemingly intelligent person would hang out with 3 obvioulsy retarded people, much less use them to carry on a really dangerous mission.
shareThis is like the liverwurst of comedy. It's great for those who like this sort of thing and those who don't won't ever get it. It's definitely not for everybody.
Okay, so it is not bust-a-gut, roll in the floor non-stop hilarious. It is full of humor, subtle and obvious. It is a huge risk to even attempt to make a comedy about something so serious. It is understandable that some people don't like it. It's understandable some people are a bit put off or offended by it. And... I think it's understandable that some people are conflicted because you're not supposed to find Islamic jihad funny. There is a part of your subconscious that tells you you're not supposed to laugh.
I liked it because it is so unorthodox and different.
Liverwurst of comedy. I really like that phrase. Going to start using it myself. Thanks for introducing it, sums up the situation perfectly.
It's subtle, black humour. Clearly, that isn't your thing.
