Z Guyzzz question

It's mentioned many times in the movie that they are the "Z Guyeeezzz" not 'those' guys. It makes it seem like they are mistaken for another band named something similar.

Is there mention of another similar band name in the movie? Is this making fun of a similarly named band at the time?

I am confused every time I watch this move! lol

My guess would be New Kids on the Block or New Edition? Just a parody of some boy band that broke through the 80's rock generation?

It was making fun of New Kids/New Edition and the whole boy band movement.
