OK, the movie isn't totally heinous

It's not great, the plot isn't horrible, but is pretty weak. Most of the singing is actually pretty good. Tom Cruise is borderline. At moments, he nails his character. Other times, he's just not hitting that right mix of campy and 'rock star'. I'm wondering if we've hit the end of stellar Tom Cruise performances, of which there really have been some.

The musical scenes, there's where it can be painful. Sone of those sprained my spleen. But some of them were actually pretty cool and funny. A great example is the We're Not Gonna Take It/We Built this City. That one was fun and seemed to actually click. Hit Me With Your Best Shot was pretty cool, too. Also, 'Dont Stop Believin'' was well enough done, that the whole sequence works, including the 'Let me introduce the writer of this song.' cliche.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, 'I Can't Fight This Feeling' is probably THE most embarrassing moment of Alec Baldwin's celebrity career and life. And keep in mind that this is Alec Baldwin we're taking about, there has been an amazing amount of really embarrassing moments for this guy.

Yo wrap it up, this movie is just fun enough that if I'm cruising the channels and find it, I'll turn it on for at least a few minutes to see a song or two.

And all this is coming from a guy who can't stand musicals, and only has about 5 that I actually enjoy.

I may be the only person on the board who enjoyed Alec in this. To me, "I Can't Fight This Feeling" was so over-the-top that I laughed out loud several times during the song. I really enjoyed seeing him in such an uncharacteristic role, and thought he made the movie fun!

I like over the top camp a lot of the time, but that was hideous.
