Russell Brand's accent

Why is he trying a Brummie accent? (ie from Birmingham, England)? Or is he? Sometimes it sounds like he is, and other times he sounds like his usual Estuary England self. Is it some kind of tribute to Ozzy Osbourne?

He is attempting a Brummie accent, but he can't do it, that's why he's lapsing back into his own accent. It's most noticeable in the scarf on the mic scene.

It is quite possibly the worst fake English regional accent I've ever heard. It makes Dick Van Dyke seem like an entirely acceptable Victorian Cockney chimney sweep. The biggest problem is the way it varies from scene to scene. I didn't think Russel Brand could have a more annoying way of talking, but now I know. I thought he was aiming at a Liverpool accent, like mid-60s Ringo Starr, but maybe you're right, he might have been going for an Ozzy Osbourne, or a Noddy Holder.
