at what time period is this film set?

Is this medieval Japan or before? Or is it the 1600s or 1700s? Haven't seen the film

It's set in Fantasyland, Bizarre Monsters period, not in Japan at all.

The historical events on which it is very, very loosely based took place from April 1701 to March 1703.

its towards the end of the feudal era.

But its mostly based on Hollywood view of history, wish is a part of the baldest history book ever write in the history of mankind.

Yeah I didn't know it was a fantasy movie until this giant creature bursts out of the woods. Some kinda Asian dragon creature w fur, 8 eyes and tree branches for front legs. Kiiiinda killed it for me.
