keanu character was out of place

There was no need for him, the lead samurai dude is the protagonist

Were you even paying attention? The whole point of his character was to be a half breed, outcast. Not fitting in with the Europeans or Japanese.

OF COURSE he was out of place.

The core story is a legend. Not a verifiable biography. So the filmmakers are free to play with the details as much as they want. Personally, I think they did an awesome job with the costumes and social customs. The supernatural was a nice touch, too.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

As Devans00 explains his character is meant to be out of place.

... the lead samurai dude is the protagonist
The positive is Kai doesn't lead the group. He becomes a trusted advisor to Oishi, the leader of the Rōnin, partly due to the expertise he acquired, growing up separately with the Tengu.🐭

Was there a Kai character with the 47 ronin? I started researching this, after seeing the movie, and I don't think there was a person like Kai there. Also, wasn't Oishi Chikara not spared?

reply

No there wasn't and Oishi Chikara wasn't spared IRL.🐭
