Who the f thought, "Oh, let's add some supernatural sh!t to this story?"

47 Ronin is a great story - a TRUE story - all by itself. The Japanese have made it into a movie a number of times. It is part of the Japanese national psyche.

This film rapes and ruins that story by adding witches and beasts and magic and bullsh!t to it.

WHY? WHY? WHY?

Who the f@ck thought, "Wow, that's an interesting story. But wouldn't it be better if we add in weird CGI animals for them to hunt? Oh, and how about we explain why Lord Asano did what he did because of some witchcraft, instead of that Kira was a boorish a$$hole who deserved what he got? You know, even though this story has captured the imagination of the entirety of Japan for over 300 years, this thing won't work as a movie without a big Hollywood name and a love interest."

I want the a$$hole who thought up that bullsh!t to be flayed alive. C()cksucker.

... which has been fictionalized by the Japanese themselves many times themselves down through the ages.

In all their pre-publicity for the film Universal didn't try to hide the fact that fantasy elements would be incorporated into their version of the story (for better or worse).

If you had such a deep aversion to them doing this, ...
This film rapes and ruins that story
... why would you even bother to watch it?

This of course assumes that you have actually seen the film and you're not just flinging the above emotive clap-trap around, without having seen it.🐭

I didn't know this because I'm not Japanese.

Yeah, so what? So I'm not allowed to watch it and see what they did? Maybe, like you say as the Japanese have done, it added something. It did not.

Clearly!
Yeah, so what? So I'm not allowed to watch it
No, just the opposite, go for it by all means. My point is that the publicity for the film didn't try to hide the fantasy elements to the legend. So if you wanted to see a close to true recreation of the events, why did you ever go along to see something that clearly was never going to be true to life and something that has worked you up so much you want to flay people alive etc. Don't you feel your criticisms may be just a little over the top?

It's kind of like me going along to see a version of Macbeth and then going the full rant because I wasn't seeing the history of the real Macbeth and was seeing all this supernatural stuff instead (ghosts, witches etc.) (And I'm not claiming this film is Shakespearian in quality.)🐭

Well, one thing the publicity didn't warn about was Keanu's acting. But then again, I should have realized that myself from all of his other movies.

These boards, like the whole English speaking internet, are full of stupid people constantly being offended on everyone else's behalf. You are asking for someone "to be flayed alive" for doing something (inserting traditional monsters and supernatural elements in a historic setting) that's been done to death by Japanese authors. Then, when someone calls you out on your *beep* you have the gall to act offended.

Why don't you try actually learning about other cultures instead of just pretending to care about them for social justice points?

reply

Why don't you shove a red-hot poker up your own ass while tap-dancing and whistling Dixie?
