Pretty obvious they smeared Keanu all over this script
Because they were afraid it would be too "Asian" for American audiences. His character could've been completely cut out and the movie would have faired just as well or better. Even the docks scene seemed hammered to explain why their untrained servant would be fighting better than Samurai.
