Bizarre ending - spoilers

Mass suicide of all of the heroes as an ending to a movie? I couldn't even figure out what they did that was so wrong that justified it. Very bizarre.

It's the only part of this fantasy romp that bears any resemblance to the actual historical truth.

They disobeyed a direct order from the Shogun not to take revenge on Asano's death. They did, so the penalty for disobedience on that scale is death. They are given a chance to suicide first to prove they are not just chickenspit.

It was the only part of the film where the audience cheered!

It's the highest honour a Ronin can achieve. Honourable suicide.

Cardboard Box is the Future.

It all happened to reflect that the Shogun is a man of his word and his word counts in Japanese feudal society.🐭

Considering they said they would have to die even if they were victorious before they even started their mission the ending was exactly what I expected, they kill the bad guy and then die...

If Jesus and Mohammed both came back to save their people would they debate on tv?

reply

It was a stupid ending to a stupid movie.

because at the end of the day whether they where right or wrong , they disobeyed the Shogun, who forbad them from seeking revenge.
The Shogun was following tradition and had no choice but to order their deaths. He recognised their honour and heroism through allowing them to kill themselves as opposed to being hanged like criminals.

Moral is don't try to be a hero in Japan.

Oh Look At That Im Very Good
