So what was "Lovecraftian" about that gigantic Samurai? *Spoilers!*
According to the casting, the gigantic samurai in black and silver armor and is played by the 7'8" Neil Fingleton is called the "Lovecraftian Samurai". Judging from what I've seen this movie, there really wasn't anything similar to the works of H.P. Lovecraft that pertains to this character at all other than the fact that is indeed inhuman . He isn't alien and otherworldly like Cthulhu, Dagon, Mother Hydra, Azathoth, etc. He isn't demonic nor monsterous. He isn't even that malicious if you think about it, just very tough and loyal to his master. In fact, the only thing that is confirmed about him is that he is in fact simply an animated suit of armor that Kira got under control most likely through the witch's twisted magics. Speaking of the witch, both she and the Tengu both deserve to be called more "Lovecraftian" than this mountainous giant of steel considering how otherworldly their powers are compared to him, not to mention the fact that like Lovecraft's Nyarlathotep, the witch is implied to be an inhuman creature from the very beginning. Hell, even the Qilin at the beginning of this movie deceives the "Lovecraftian" moniker more than the giant considering how alien it looked.
Don't get me wrong. I liked the big giant samurai. It's just that I feel that he deserved a title more befitting for his character.
