If you're a cynic or someone who gets hung up on every little detail and looking for a cinematic masterpiece, this movie isn't for you.
I finally got around to watching it and really liked it. The CGI and mystical side of it was well done and I liked the visual styling of it. There were just a few lame moments where it felt too westernized.
I give it an easy 7.
My exacts thoughts. It had the potential to be a lot better, but all in all it has its merits. Entertaining, fairly fascinating and visually pleasing.
shareI was surprised too at how much I enjoyed it - figured it for another "Abraham Lincoln Vampire Slayer" (i.e., magicking up historical fiction) but I thought it paid real homage to the bushi code
Add'l props for using actual Japanese people to play the ronin & their families (and sort of the Shogun, who's American but ethnically Japanese)
It was almost good. It had its qualities but fell short IMO. 5/10
shareThis movie was great. Like a fairy tale. A simple story, but shown with great skill in acting, costumes, and special effects.
Better movies have been made, but this one will be timeless.
