To the people saying 'this could be our future'
A lot of people are mentioning that this could be our future and referring to genetic engineering and what not. I read a book about the brain once, and at the beginning it said something about how after a lot of people (non-scientists) started getting an interest in genetic engineering and such, they got very paranoid and started talking about a future where people can "order babies with the eye color that they want" etc., and it led to a lot of unnecessary regulations for scientists. It also said that none of these problems are relevant at all, and are just made up by people who have an unrealistic view of the field.
I'm not sure I'm explaining it right, as English is not my first language and it's been a few years since i read it. The part I do remember clearly though is that because of this, scientists in brain research are keeping a low profile because they want to avoid those unnecessary regulations and problems that can arise from appearing too much in popular media and so people are missing out on hearing about a lot of interesting and groundbreaking discoveries. It also said that there is no reason to worry about these scientific fields because they are already following very strict rules.
So I don't think Never Let Me Go was about a possible future for us, and I don't think that was the point of the movie - that we should fear science or medicine. I just think it was an alternate universe created to explore humanity and life.
