Is Madame Kathy's 'original'?

Kathy searches for her original in a porn magazine, but she never finds her. I was expecting her original to be presented somewhere in the story, even in a subtle way. Could Madame Marie-Claude, the art gallery-owner, be the one? She is the only one who actually looks like Kathy. Same height, similar face and hair.

If so, it would give an explanation to why she was interested in knowing if they had souls. Also her behavior hints that she has a special relation to Kathy. In the book, she cries when she sees Kathy listening to Never Let Me Go by her lonesome. But the most distinct hint is shown in one of the last scenes where Madame strokes Kathy's cheek.

What do you think?

I was just coming onto this board right now to say the same thing. I've always thought this for some reason. Can't explain, but yes I think she is her original!! Glad I'm not the only one!

I noticed the same thing, so I guess you might be right!

I don't think Madame was Kathy's original. In the book Madame did explain why she cried when she saw Kathy listening to "Never Let Me Go". Miss Emily confessed she felt a sense of revulsion when she saw the children at Hailsham, but she fought back those feelings. Madame, and the rest of society at large, generally felt the same way.

Why would Madame have a clone of herself made if she knows what will happen to it?
