There's some really haunting scenes in this film and some poignant ones. Really well made, great direction by Romanek.
However I cant help but feel that this film would of attracted me more if there were more interaction with the 'outside' world. Apart from the small 10 minute bit where they went to a cafe.
I wanted to feel more of their sense of rebellion and anger with their lives.
The fact that the donors were grown up in a certain way so that they would have no sense of anger or rebellion inside them was an important part of the film though and it was shown in various ways.
They had an inherent fear against the "outside" shown by the scene where the ball went out and the one where the new teacher asked about it. Also shown in the roleplay and cafe scene, no matter how much they roleplayed or did it for real, they would probably never feel completely comfortable outside.
