Is this a remake of an spanish movie?

In Mientras Duermes, her boyfriend also dies. The stalker kills him, by I believe cutting an artery and the man bleeds to death in the bath tub. It was pretty vivid.

I have to say, I liked the Spanish film much more, but I doubt one is a remake of the other, considering The Resident came out a few months BEFORE Mientras Duermes. Nevertheless, I have to say that the ending of the Spanish film is a lot more brutal than in this one. You can really see a difference in production. In this film there is that good beats evil part that is customary in US films. In the Spanish film, her finally finding out how she gets pregnant and whose child it is is a victory of the stalker over her, and over the world. Finally he has managed to make someone more miserable than him. It was quite heart wrenching in my opinion. Which is very much in the style of a European production, that preference of leaving things somewhat unresolved and inviting the viewer to fill in the blanks and take the film home with them.
