$3,800/month is a bargain?

I know NYC is expensive to live in, but I found it surprising how much the "$3,800 rent" was thrown around in the movie like it was pocket change. Hilary Swank, her boyfriend and her friend all thought it was dirt cheap. And the place looked like it wasn't even in Manhattan (Brooklyn, I think).

I'm not as surprised at the amount as I am that an ER doctor could afford that kind of rent.

An ER physician in NYC probably earns at least $250k/yr, so not to hard to believe she could afford $3,800/mo for rent.

...also for that location and size of the apartment, etc, it is a bargain. A studio can run about $2000.00 in a not so great area of Manhattan. Sadly I know this because I so badly want to live there.
