So, there's one episode where someone mentions that young people today will respond to all good news with "hot dog!" and all bad news with "mama mia..." and, of course, when they go tell a terminally ill child that he'll live, he says "hot dog!", but then they turn it around and he sadly says "mama mia..."

I know what you're talking about. Sadly I dont remember the exact episode. I only watched up to the last episode of Season 3. Try Season 2. Or Season 1 maybe. I havent seen either in a good while. Sorry it's not much help.
