Why is each episode so short?

They're only about 10+ minutes. Why is this not a regular 30 min show?

It's an Adult Swim show, so this is typical for episode length. I'm not sure that this type of comedy (quick wit, loads of random nonsense) would work in a 30 minute format. Keep in mind that Childrens Hospital started out as a web series with each episode in the 4-5 minute range.
Another Adult Swim series, Metalocalypse, tried the 30 minute episodes experiment in their 3rd season and it really didn't work.

I actually really liked the 30 minute Metalocalypse episodes. Did most people not? Obviously Venture Bros works great as a half an hour (and wouldn't work in the 10 minute format), but I think you're right that Childrens Hospital wouldn't. It wants to get in, get out and make you laugh in the interim.
