What did I miss?

I kept hearing how brilliant and hilarious this movie is. I finally watched it this week, and I thought it was okay, but basically a slapstick kid's movie with mediocre voice acting. The kids were pretty adorable, but I found the minions to be very annoying. Why do so many of my adult friends love it? What did I miss?

It's this strange concept called "fun." It's not a groundbreaking movie, it's just a REALLY fun one.

Eh, I wouldn't call it "brilliant" or whatever, but it's funny enough, and it seems a little more, I don't know, congenial and/or sure about what it wants to do than most animated films these days, with some nice characters. Relies very little on overt pop-cultural reference humor which is a nice change of pace.

Shouldn't have been expecting a classic, though. Them pointless minions, for one, hurt it. Seems like something cooked up by marketing or something more than anything else. It's a license to print money and probably fun for the kids or whatever but I just found them annoying.

I have to agree. I love animated films but im halfway through it at the moment and I'm about ready to turn it off.

A lot of my friends have recommended it as The best animation film they've seen but I don't see the big deal at all.

At first I thought it was because it's based on human characters but I just don't think it's very good. Maybe too much hype... Either way I'll stick to Shrek or Monsters Inc...
