All the fuss...

This is really quite simple; if you are from Europe you will probably not like this remake. If you are from the U.S and you have a fondness for European films, you will probably not like this remake IF you have seen the original.
However, if you are from the States and like MOST in the States (not all obviously) have never heard of the small Brit original, then you will LOVE this film.

I thought this movie was hilarious! Yes, I am American with Mexican ancestry so I have a leaning towards this film over the original (I watched the trailers and the usual subdued British humor did not quite get me like the black humor did), and I usually don’t like African American comedies!

I mean the black mother telling her daughter-in-law that she’s leaving finger-prints on the coffin was funnier than hearing the usual stuffy British old lady say it. Chris Rock pointing out that the Asian man in the coffin was funnier because it is more ridiculous that the funeral home would make THAT mistake over what I could only assume would be a very plausible mistake in the original.
In fact most critics here said it was funnier, but albeit an unnecessary remake – hence the slightly lower scores.

In the end, if you are American and not into films from Europe just because they are from Europe (that’s really the only reason I think some here in the States may like the original over this one, because it is in no way superior – they are the same film with different cultural points of view) then do yourself and watch this version. It is a hilarious movie, and I just enjoyed it having never heard of the original. If you watch this one first then do not watch the original as the low-key, and DRY British humor will make it look unfairly boring.
