Is the remake worth the watch?

Well Well?

I love this movie--my father was in his late middle age when I was born, so he raised my sister and me to face the fact that everyone dies, and he was probably not going to see us hit middle age (he didn't). That everyone cannot handle death jokes was something I never realized until I saw the "Dick Van Dyke Show" episode where Laura and Rob are trying to decide where to be buried. Sally hates the whole topic, Buddy throws death jokes out to drive her nuts till she tells him, "One more death joke and I'll kill ya!"

Plus, I have said for years that weddings and funerals bring out the stinker in way too many of us. This movie, even more than the original, shows all of that.

And I loved the original. It was even like a family funeral for me in that I hadn't seen Ms. Jane Asher for years and didn't realize she was still acting. My reaction was, "Hey, Baby Jane! Howya doin?!"

No, it is not worth seeing. Watch the original - that one IS funny.

No. If you value your brain cells, watch the original and steer clear of the remake garbage.

Let's write something on the carpet. I know, let's write MOTHER SUCKS!

They're both the same movie. Watch either one. They both kick ass.

Honestly, if this weren't a 'remake' it'd be a decent comedy, somewhere in the 5 to 6-ish range, and I suspect the people who haven't seen the original enjoyed it quite a bit.

Having seen the first version, however, just makes this seem cheap and rubbishy.

If you don't understand, then you should not be here.

No. It felt uninspired. I was bored while watching. Columbus, Zoe, and James were fine, but no one else performed well. The original on the other hand starts slowly, but gets really funny as it goes along. All in all I was hoping for this to be a fun spin on the original, but instead it brought little to the table.

The Wire 10/10
Breaking Bad 9/10
Dexter 9/10

I'm about 20 minutes in, and I'm already bummed out. I like a lot of the actors in this movie, but I almost never go for remakes done this way. I don't understand why this was remade so soon...or at all for that matter. This is just a lazy. Seeing Chris Rock play the relatively "straight man" (in comparison to the rest) amongst a talented comedic cast seemed like a waste. Martin Lawrence always does pretentious well (I mean that in a good way), and Danny Glover's first line almost made me smile...But really, I watched this because I love Luke Wilson, I'm always up for Keith David, and I thought I might get a kick out of seeing Peter Dinklage reprise his role. I'm not sure how I would have felt about this movie if I hadn't seen the original beforehand, but I would have watched it anyway after hearing it was a remake, and then I'd be in the same place.

I agree with pretty much everyone else. See the original. The ratings sing the same tune.
