Watched the original

I just finished watching the original movie and than I saw the trailer for this. Americans really are simple minded, they took the term "Dark Comedy" literally and had an all-black cast in this movie...
P.S.
It's a joke, but I really think a remake for a movie that came out 4 years ago is unnecessary...

I just saw them both, posted on the other film's board. It's a shame we can't import British and French films here on a regular basis. Back in the 80's I had a specialty cinema nearby that would show "La Cage Aux Folles", etc. and Almadovar films.

There's an audience here, but not big enough. I think the choice of a black American family was a good one considering the family dynamics and the stage-like setting. I wondered if this was based on a play but it didn't seem to be.

I have seen the original and loved it. I was furious when I saw they remade it. And I say this as an american.

Well I'm generally peeved at that too. But they were both funny in the dry Brit way and the nutty American way.

I just saw that they made a Bollywood version in 2009, called "Daddy Cool"!

Oh my god there is Bollywood version! Is there a dance sequence?

This wasn't a rip-off type of re-make. It's fairly common for British TV shows to be re-done for an American audience. The Office isn't called a rip-off. I also thought the take of using an African-American family was clever. I loved the first one, but I also thought the re-make was really good.
