So, I happened to see both films inside of a week
And...this one was just cringeworthy for me.
I saw the original first. So, since I knew what most of the lines/scenes were and everything, I had no choice but to observe the actors "acting" and it was really, really bad. Even Zoe Saldana wasn't any good. I thought that Chris Rock was awful. So, having seen both of them much better, how can we not blame the director for how bad this movie is?
I think it's interesting that people here are calling it an all-black cast when you have Luke Wilson and James Marsden in primary supporting roles.
No one should watch both in a short amount of time, I say choose one or the other. It's not like the first was an Oscar-worthy film or anything...it was somewhat enjoyable, funny at points, etc. But it was FAR better.
One example - in this one, when Zoe Saldana's brother didn't actually put the bottle of pills in his pocket and they fell to the ground? It was like only a three year old would really do something like that. It was sooooo badly done, awkward, and just plain stupid.
And it bothered me that the dwarf guy was in this one too. It added to the cringe-factor for me.
The only scene that was a little bit better was the body falling out of the casket. Much more over-the-top dramatic!
