Why didn't the boy's family do anything?

After the police still took the boy back to Jeffrey Dahmer' apartment, Jeffrey killed him. Did the boy's family not look out for him or report him missing? Can't believe he still got away even after that murder.

I think the boy would still be alive if the Laotian father didn't love whiskey that much.

I haven't so far seen any details about his family, except he had a brother who was also molested. Probably they were orphans and easy targets for Dahmer.
