Episode 7 was borderline unwatchable

Not only was it boring, but it tried way too hard to push the false narrative that Dahmer was a racist without any real evidence. Also trying to make Jesse Jackson into a hero when he is a true racist was disgusting. Really took the whole show down a bit in quality.

The whole story could easily have been told in half the time. Every time the focus strayed away from Dahmer or his family I started to lose interest and had to force myself to keep watching.

reply

Same. The second half drags so fucking much

Episodes 6, 7 and 9 could easily have been condensed to about 10 or 20 minutes each. I eagerly binge-watched the first half of the series but then the next day I was hardly able to keep my attention on the TV for episodes 6 and 7. 8 was good, but then 9 dragged again. 10 had some weird moments when it felt like they were trying to turn the mentally ill Scarver into a heroic figure.

They felt obligated to add all that Woke filler, but it just damaged the overall quality of the show.

reply

Not saying Dahmer didn't having coming, but Scarver was a mentally ill murderer too and a religious wacko. Making him into some sort of hero figure was pretty gross.

reply

I didn't like that scene at all. It's true that Dahmer expressed suicidal tendencies, but it's hard to believe he so casually accepted his fate of being bludgeoned to death while Scarver went on for minutes doing his wacky sermon.

I didn't like how much screen time was devoted to Glenda. Sure, she was victimized, but can her ordeal really compare to the victim's families? The scene with the sandwich was ridiculous too. If she already suspected he was mutilating bodies, she could've taken that to the police. Her befriending the kid's father and speaking of the tragedy as if she understood what it was like losing a child in such a way was cringe inducing as was all the scenes with her becoming an activist. Who really cares about the memorial? Why even draw attention to capitalizing on Dahmer's infamy when the series itself is exploitative to some degree?

It's even worse when you realize that her character is mostly made up. They were clearly trying to push an agenda even though the truth is somewhere in the middle.

- If she already suspected he was mutilating bodies, she could've taken that to the police.

She called the police several times(including the time they showed up to find a zonked out naked 14 year old) and they did fuck all to help. Do you really think a "crazy" lady coming into the station with a sandwich her neighbor gave her was going to spur them into action? She basically had to live next to a deranged nut, listening to and smelling his crimes, and was completely powerless to do anything.

The episode wasn't about making Dahmer seem racist(he was just crazy), it was about showing how shitty, incompetent, and even racist the police department that gave zero fucks about crimes against minorities was.

The situation is hypothetical anyway. The poor lady who was actually offered the sandwich (and from all accounts was friendly with Dahmer) actually ate the sandwich. However, in the series, it's very much implied that Glenda already knew about him at the time he offered her the sandwich. Would she have been thought of as crazy had she brought it in as evidence? For sure. However, ultimately it wouldn't have been that hard to determine the source of the meat. After all, it was physical evidence that led to his arrest, so it would've been worth presenting as evidence even at someone's own risk. But it's a moot point as the situation didn't happen in real life as the real lady didn't suspect a thing.

It's definitely worth noting that the cops were incompetent but the series takes it to another level in asserting that the cops were evil and vindictive figures who deliberately harassed victims simply due to their race and that everyone else knew of his crimes when he actually fooled a lot of people, including his neighbor.

reply

The only one who is disgusting and a racist is you cocksucker.

reply

Did it really "try way too hard" to push the narrative that he was racist? They definitely played up the white privilege angle and the fact that the black victims/witnesses were largely ignored, but if I watched the series without any prior knowledge I would not get the impression that he was killing black men because he hated black people.
