I've seen many movies and never I've turned it off after only 10 minutes
This is a bad movie, bad acting coming from a horror movie fan..just what the hell were they thinking
shareThis is a bad movie, bad acting coming from a horror movie fan..just what the hell were they thinking
shareIf you gave the film a chance you'd find the acting terrific by pretty much the whole cast. If you were rubbed the wrong way by the documentary feel of it then fine, but this is nowhere near a "bad" movie.
shareHow do you watch no more than 10 minutes of a movie and think you have the right to call it bad.
I've watched a LOT of sh*tty movies all the way through, just to make sure I was indeed wasting my time.
The movie was just beyond horrible, why watch it in the first place?
shareThough you found it necessary to start an entirely new thread discussing the merits (or lack thereof) of this film - you contributed absolutely nothing to said discussion. Thank you for wasting my time so effectively!

I'm pretty sure they meant wasting time by the fact that the OP didn't really elaborate much on what was actually wrong with the film in their opinion.
shareywah i never understood that about ppl here onIMBD. If you don't like what he is saying, shut up and move on. this is obviously a thread where the like minded people can discuss this film, just as they like to talk about how much they enjoyed the film.

People that have better things to do rarely (if ever) sit through a crappy movie "just to make sure they were indeed wasting their time."
I watched it up until the "ritual" scene and then, after I stopped laughing hysterically, googled any method what-so-ever that would enable me from exorcising everything I had just seen out of my memory completely. To no avail.
It was no surprise to me as I have seen many a mockumentaries starting of course with the original, "The Blair Witch Project." Camera crews POVing through the lens of a "camera crew" is nothing original anymore though I admit "Quarantine" pulled it off with ingenuity. That of course was because of the unique storyline which "The Last Exorcism" didn't have. It started out with a good idea but then the plot quickly got lost and the story became so mundane it was yawm inspiring at best.
I agree with the original post in this thread and wish I had his/her wisdom to have watched only 10 minutes of this crap...but then again maybe I too am saving someone else?
Re: I've seen many movies
I agree.. Reminds me of an episode of The American Office... Funny
share"Camera crews POVing through the lens of a "camera crew" is nothing original anymore though I admit "Quarantine" pulled it off with ingenuity"
You do mean "REC", right? Quarantine was the american remake of REC, and REC is an amazing film!
well then you havent seen the movie so you dont actually know whether it was bad or not.

This movie is complete trash and what a waste of DTS-HD Master 7.1 lol
shareI'm jealous of the op, i did watch this piece of crap movie all the way through and came up with the same conclusion: this movie was rotten, from the acting on down. What a waste of time. Not at all scary. The acting was more frightening than anything in the story......by far!
shareSome people have a short attention span. If nothing jumps out at them in the first five minutes it's not worth their time. They don't care for story development.
sharePeople who don't like this movie are HUGE Saw fans.
They mostly come out at night; mostly.
I remember a time when it took a good 20 minutes to develope characters in most good movies. Then again, I remember when movies weren't made for the ADD crowd.
shareI'm confused by some of the comments in this thread. Like yours: I suppose the ADD crowd are the people who watch a "POV" movie without noticing the endless changes in camera angle? How can anyone possibly call this a good movie when it doesn't even stick to its own plot device?
shareI hate it when people judge movies right in. If we all judged movies by the first ten or twenty minutes, then God, over half of the greatest movie population would suck.
This movie was great, and as far as horror goes, really satisfying. I've yet to seen a recent horror film that was actually scary, and this actually frightened me. The documentary feel makes it so it's almost believable that this is real footage. It looks like a documentary too. I absolutely recommend this movie, especially to those who deny it's greatness when they haven't even seen it.
It's like being inside a dream or something.. There's truth, but no logic.
Cmon man, you really thought this thing was scary. The acting was so bad my 13 year old was laughing throughout this godawful mess. I watched the whole thing and this was the first movie I've watched in a long time that I can honestly say was terrible, a complete waste of time.
shareI agree dude...i watched the entire thing because i was hoping it was gonna get better...i mean i'm all for character development and this film did a good job on that but honestly..character development doesn't mean crap if it doesn't go anywhere...hell it was like they spent so much time on the character development that they forgot they were supposed to make a scary movie and sort of just pasted together whatever scary scenes they thought of and called it a wrap...the movie was 1 hour and 30 min long...it's never a good idea to spend 90% of that time developing the character and 10% of actual scary scenes...Blair Witch had a good blend of both character development and scary scenes and that *beep* didn't have things popping out of nowhere

LOL I don't have a short attention span...i watched the entire movie...i'm just saying that I wasn't scared by the movie at all..the few parts I actually felt scared were the ones I mentioned..maybe you get scared by things that are different to what gets me scared
For me personally it was a disappointing movie...maybe I expected too much from it but overall I was not scared or terrified at all...the ending was a somewhat unexpected twist but it really wasn't anything special in my opinion.
I agree that there were moments in the movie that built up the tension and suspense so i give them respect for creating that atmosphere but this movie reminds me of "the haunting of molly hartley" a movie that built up suspense and tension and ended up being one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my life and one of the few movies where people in the theatre actually booed lol
I'm not saying this movie is as horrible as that piece of crap BUT people really shouldn't go into it expecting it to be as terrifying as the trailer made it out to be.
But that's just my opinion..it wasn't a great movie for me and didn't leave me shaken like many other scary movies have before..it might work for others but for me it failed to get the job done

Dude I watched it at home in the dark with my sound system on...I just didn't find it that scary lol why is that so hard to believe?
Like I said before you may have found it scary but that's your personal feelings about the movie...I just didn't find it scary at all..I admit there were some scary moments but other than that the entire movie just didn't scare me...the contorting by the girl was a little freaky but it just didn't have any lasting effect on me afterwards
some movies i personally found scary was recently paranormal activity..the first one..the 2nd one i don't believe had the same effect as the first one for me..probably because i watched it in the theatre..i don't like watching scary movies in the theatre for the same reasons you listed above..people talking and screaming at every little thing which gets annoying...i believe the best way to watch a scary movie is in the privacy of your home with the volumes turned up and lights turned off..alone or with a few select friends
Sure some people might think that paranormal activity isn't scary but i think it got the job done and did pretty well considering its budget...it was very subtle in the way they made a scene scary...there was a lot of talking in that movie too but it was interesting and it had a lasting effect on me after i finished watching it. I started hearing weird noises in my room and was genuinely freaked out for a bit..i think that movie was well done but like i said this is just my personal opinion
but overall TLE just wasn't scary for me but that is my personal opinion..if it was scary for you than great the movie did its job for you..but for me i still think it failed

Hes not contradicting himself just bad wording, he says the entire movie did not have any lasting affect on him. It didn't leave him scared. It did have a few scary scenes, but no lasting affect, no psychological affect... the movie did not work on him is basically what hes saying.
Hes saying something completely different to your example.
A better analogy would be "Saving Private Ryan" didn't leave me shocked, but it did have some violence.

I like this movie, but I understand your point, I felt the same way about "Confessions of a Shopaholic". I was so in love with the book and it made me laugh so much! Then I watched the movie and turned it off after 15 minutes, I have NEVER done that, EVER! In fact, I like pretty much every movie I see, but that one really bugged me.
However, I liked The Last Exorcism. But like I said, I like most movies.

WHAT'S A BIEBER????
LOL. what are your favorite horror movies?? i'm curious.
They mostly come out at night; mostly.

And I do like several of the movies on your list, it's not like I'm not a horror movie fan,
Carpenter's Halloween 1&2
The Exorcist
Paranormal Activity 1(and 2 actually)
The Strangers
The Ring
Rosemary's Baby
I just totally disagree about this movie.
The Strangers? Really? You think that movie was better than The Last Exorcism? And with better acting? I'm sorry, that's just wrong. It's not like The Last Exorcism was great or anything but it is "scarier" and with better acting all the way through...come on...
The rest I agree except for Paranormal Activity 1 & 2... Those two are two of the most non-scary "horror" movies I've ever seen, although they are interesting enough. And, once again, you can't possibly say that the acting in Paranormal Activity is better than this movie. At the least they are equal.
Yes the strangers was way better horror movie than this laugher and at times had me on the edge of my seat.
And PAranormal Activity one and two were better as well. With those two, I at least got the feeling that I was watching a true documentary movie. The Last Exorcism to me was a complete joke.....I got the feeling I was watching a Saturday Night Live skit.
But, like I posted in the other thread, you want another movie to accurately compare it with? Compare it with The Exorcist and it's not even in the same zip code. The Exorcist: scary as hell and creepy, not to mention a well made movie about exorcism and the devil. The Last Exorcism: a laugh out loud, strictly d level movie with not an ounce of scariness in it at all. Seriously it was terrible on it's own without even comparing it to a true classic like The Exorcist.
Ugh really Saw franchise? I mean yeah it had good music and plot twists, but apart from the third movie and the 'niche' of the first movie it was mostly plain. Dexter? The main character is beyond ugly, physically, mentally, its unwatchable and not because of the gore scenes.
And Frozen? Its a really averagish movie that ends up being unintentionally comedic. Seriously you need to watch more classic horrors that are far scarier then most of these new films on your list.
The Last Exorcism is just not really good as a horror film, its more like a thriller that wasn't all that interesting...
Halloween 1&2 are cheap olden day horror, that was pretty niche back then but it hasn't aged well... I found it be pretty plain.
Childs Play is a fun horror IMO, scary for children no doubt like the movie 'It'.
As for The Strangers, Rosemary's Baby, Eden Lake, Hard Candy, Inside, High Tension, Martyrs, Frontiers don't know about them yet.
I agree with Paranormal Activity, The Exorcist, The Ring, Exorcism of Emily Rose, Orphan, Audition are all excellent... I would add 'The Grudge' to the list, as well as 'Dark Water' (original version) and 'Tale of 2 Sisters'.
I also think Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes are really good horror even though they are American films.
Junk lists of horror movies. Paranormal activity??? really??? How about Poltergeist, Silence of the Lambs, Psycho, The Shining, The thing, The Exorcist? Horror movies aren't about being scared, they're supposed to make you think, psychological. I can't believe how many people listed Paranormal activity, god that was a horrible movie.
sharethis movie sucked from beginning to end......This was comically bad. Now it's been a few weeks since I watched this mess but I remember two things about it 1.) For a horror movie, this was a pretty good comedy, now I don't know what my 13 year old's qualifications as a horror movie critic are but I do know he watched this thing all the way through and there was quite a few laughs from him throughout. About halfway through he turns to me and says, "this isn't very scary, it's pretty bad." The same sentiments I was thinking but didn't say. And 2.) the acting absolutely sucked, especially, ESPECIALLY, the girl who was being exorcised. She was about the worst of a rotten bunch. I stick by my earlier statement. This is the first movie of the year that I rented (or went to) that I thought sucked from every conceivable standpoint. You were frightened by this garbage, that's fine. But I felt there was absolutely nothing scary or worthwhile to this garbage movie. A complete waste of time...and I'm still envious of the OP for making the correct move of turning this off after ten minutes....the lucky bastard. I rated it exactly what it deserved....a 1. And seeing what this movie's average score is, it looks like I'm not alone.
