WTF?

Was it just me that found this film hilarious and more like a spoof horror? To me it was like The Office with demons. It is not remotely realistic i.e like a real documentary which is what it is trying to be.

There were so many moments which were ripe for a good belly laugh.

I watched this on tv a couple nights ago, it certainly did feel like it was made by some Disney producers who had no idea what they were doing but thinking they were on a winner. The good thing about this film is it can be used as a guide on how not to do a mocumentary type thriller/horror.

Yep, same here. The movie is playing on IFC now and it is just ridiculous and silly. It really is resembling a spoof. What I am even more surprised by is many posts by people who liked it in these message boards. Maybe most of these viewers are teens who haven't seen real horror movies.
This movie can be scary because of its creepiness. It simply borrows many things that made The Exorcist, Evil Dead, and other 70s and 80s movies creepy.
The whole "fake pastor" laughing all the times, and the expectation that the viewer would suspend disbelief and believe that some camera man is constantly recording. The oblivious all around, etc.

In fact a horror movie just like that could be made by using any recording device and recording a dark house at night. Aside from being silly this whole movie feels so cheap.

I just turned it on on IFC as well. I came to the board just to comment on how badly the "found footage" angle was done.

It's not even remotely believable when the camera angle keeps changing constantly, unless we're supposed to believe that the cameraman had a whole crew of people filming with him and he went back and edited it all together after they were done filming (I haven't seen the ending yet, so I don't know if that actually makes any sense in the context of what is supposed to be happening in the movie, but I'm assuming it doesn't).

I don't know if it's just laziness, or if they purposely made it that way since doing a realistic "found footage" movie would probably be really boring, but if it's the latter, then that just begs the question why they're doing it that way in the first place.

Yea, that's pretty much what I thought in addition to things I mentioned already.

I thought, well since there are multiple angles that we see in there anyways, and we know that there shouldnt be more than one camera man, then why even bother making it appear like semi realistic "found footage" ? Just record it with standard techniques.

Shut the fck up.

CG gore is the worst thing that has ever happened to the horror genre.

It was supposed to feel that way. It was intended to look like an amateur attempt to make a documentary. Even worse, we are seeing the raw footage, not the finished documentary, so it does look cheap and unprofessional.

Yes, you could replicate most of this movie with your iPhone. That's part of the point.
