Not based on anything....

I met the writer when he came to my school to give a presentation. Very cool, honest and humble guy. Both he and the director went to my university.

Anyways when he talked about this movie, he never mentioned it being based on anything and even described the moment when the idea of the guy waking up in the wrecked car came to him.

So to those people who think it was based off a novel, apparently it wasn't. But maybe he grew inspiration from it (me nor anyone else asked him about this so it's impossible to know, especially if it was unconsciously).

Dodd had a lot more in the script that happened then what actually ended up in the movie. They got screwed over by their production company and lost a lot of budget because of it. They had to cut a lot of it down.

Kudos to Brody for sticking with it, even after the script he loved got trimmed down substantially.
