Alternative Storyline ( Spoilers )
Brody's dying and hallucinating all the dead people, and when he eventually dies, some death angel eventually comes to take him away.
That would explain some other questions on this movie, why he crawled around unnecessarily, why he kept seeing the girl he loved, and the other obvious plot holes
