Ben Foster as Bill Burroughs

What do you folks think about his performance?

Full disclosure: I only managed to see the first half of the movie last night, and I may not even bother to finish it; I know the story, and the film itself didn't particularly impress me.

But.

When Foster started talking I was absolutely gobsmacked. It was like hearing Burroughs' voice from the grave. Now, is it a great performance or just a successful imitation?

I think the guy's a brilliant actor. I have seen him in a lot of movies, but I hadn't realized that this guy brought all these different characters to life. I was particularly struck by this performance and the one in The Messenger. I'm surprised he's not more recognized for his talent.

reply

Absolutely brilliant. I came here to dedicate a thread to him and found yours. Both he and Dane DeHaan really shine in this.

Dozens of times, lots of different ways. Every night, I save you.

I think that he did a good job, and the physical resemblance to the late 20's/early 30's William Burroughs was remarkable. That being said, Foster's Burroughs didn't really say or do very much in this film - he became a background stock character who was shown whenever they needed somebody to say or do something strange.

reply

Yeah, I didn't even recognize that it was Foster. He was spot-on Burroughs, accent and all

reply

Phenomenal.

reply

Yes indeed, the performance was brilliant!
