Up to this point, I was really okay with Chris Evans ruining every potentially great movie in the past 5 years or so, but this is some seriously dangerous ground. He has stepped into the only realm that I had hoped Hollywood wouldn't *beep* with and is about to wipe his ass with Kerouac's memory which simply put, makes me want to puke my face off...
I agree with angel- don't go sh*tting all over Chris before you've seen at least a partial clip of the movie. Judging from the interview with Krokidas, the director of this film clearly holds this particular story close to his heart, and he wouldn't have cast Evans in such a major role if he didn't trust in him to do a good job.
Chris is actually a pretty decent actor when given half-way decent material to work with. I would hardly call Fantastic Four an approrpiate vehicle for him to demonstrate his acting chops. Give him a chance, he may surprise you.
Get the stick out of your @ss. Not once did I ever imply that I think of myself as a movie connoisseur. It's simplistic maybe, but I think it's generally pretty true.
You see it all the time. An actor in a scene-stealing role when, if you think about it, would have been nothing to notice about had it been inhabited by a lesser actor. You know you've found a truly special actor when he or she can elevate a small, thankless role - I'm sure you can think of a lot of examples yourself. Obviously a single bad performance doesn't apply to an entire career. Chris Evans was ok in the Fantastic Four movies and I can't really gauge his overall talent from these movies. But could a great actor have taken that role and made it better? I think it's possible.
Have you seen Fierce People? He was amazing in that film. I thought that he also did a great job in Street Kings. I've been saying for a while now that Chris Evans is a very underrated actor. The problem you may be having is that you only see him in his "comedy relief" roles like Fantastic Four or Not Another Teen Movie. Why don't you actually go see some of his serious films before passing judgment.
Why so het up about Chris Evans playing Jack Kerouac?. The IMDB cast has Jack Huston in the part of Kerouac. Evans isn't even in the movie, it seems. Michael Finlan, Galway, Ireland
