Dream sequence was waaay too long.

Okay, so I get that he made the initial nightmare scene long to throw us off that is was one. But seriously. Twenty minutes of film that didn't really happen?

I've watched it a few times now and the last two times I skipped the entire intro sequence as I felt conned by it.

I agree with the OP. The scriptwriter had no sense of proportion. Some 20 minutes were wasted on a dream sequence that did not really happen. Zombie was effective in some individual scenes but was clearly deficient as a scriptwriter.

The opening sequence was not bad as a start, but overall the number of killings in the two films was excessive. After a while, the murders (often of unnecessary and irrelevant characters) - usually by multiple stabbing - and the overlong chase scenes become repetitive and even boring. Zombie should have known that long chases don't necessarily mean suspense and a high body count doesn't mean scary.

I would like to add that the original II's "Mr Sandman" song would have fit more appropriately in Zombie's version of Part II. It was so out of place in Rosenthal's original version.

It was way to long and it was good too, too good to be a dream anyways.

Zombie on LSD when he directed it? Only explanation...

That would explain a lot, actually.
