Rob Zombie made a total ass of himself...

These 2 movies are not worth the time it takes to review them. Zombie showed a total lack of respect for Halloween fans and the horror genre by making these. Then with that second one, He intentionally pissed in our faces. Who did He think was going to accept this bizarro, white trash version of Haddonfield? He does appear to have damaged his own career in the process too, considering he hasn't had a theatrical film in nearly ten years. He underestimated just how important Halloween is to the horror community. Serves him right. Should have kept his trashy hands off something so beloved.

It's all he knows how to write. Look at his other works. He was a poor choice, but the franchise had reached a point where it needed a kick. Trouble is, Hollywood mentality always goes for "what's hot" at the moment and not what's right. Platinum Dunes success in the remake department, plus with both Loomis and Laurie unable to carry the franchise further and Hartnett wasn't coming back, they had little choice.

Halloween isn't like Friday or Nightmare where you can cast no names and still get people to see it. They had to have a marquee name. Rob's was it. Thanks to Saw and Devil's Rejects, etc. gore was a new gold mine that people wanted to see. Which is the polar opposite of Halloween at it's heart.

At least his first outing was less damning to the characters and had homages in lines and scenes from the original. To be factual, Zombie has been theatrically released with Lords of Salem and 31, but limited. No one's going to risk on hm anymore, though.

This is what happens when you get a musician to make movies. Fish out of water.

They are not exactly canon to the original series. Just Zombie's interpretation of them. Both R.Z. movies stand on their own.

reply

True, but he pulled from canon, using "homages" to lines and scenes in the first film and the second film's hospital opening. Had they truly been "his vision" they'd have done things the original did not, and the originals did it way better, I might add.

Nightmare took liberties, Friday took liberties, but they too were based on canon. You can make stand alone films without accessing or using previous installments.

They don't "stand on their own", they steal directly from the previous films. Only with a Zombie twist, which isn't that great to begin with.

What I meant from that they "stand alone" is that they are a different animal than Carpenter's. Just trying to be diplomatic.

They definitely are that, but sadly not in a good way. To me, the TCM remake was stand alone in that it was substantially different from the original, yet had enough to actually call it a remake. It added to it nicely. Same with Amityville. But Rob's Halloween, Friday and Nightmare remakes are cases where making it a different animal can go horribly wrong.

I recently watched both his Halloween movies. I had only seen bits of the first movie a few years ago after I watched it and in truth, I hated it.

So I went back to give them a chance. The first movie...will definitely never be a favorite of mine. Most of the writing in that movie was just unnecessary, but in truth, I have seen worse.

The second movie...is a complete piece of sh!t. It us unforgivable what he did this to movie. And what's bad about it is the movie started off in a good note and then did a time jump and completely fell into an abyss of nonsense.

Terrible! Just terrible!

I remember seeing the second one in the theater and loving the first part that takes part in the hospital. Then, like you said, it takes a bad turn. White horses, medics talking about necrophelia, Myers curb stomping people. Wtf?

Don't call it a comeback. I've been here for years.
