Gotta love the balls on the Haddonfield residents. I probably would have offered up my girlfriend as a distraction to run away. I sure as hell wouldn't throw down fisticuffs against Sabretooth.
First they were probably drunk or stupid, Myers was trespassing on their peoperty and their egos and numbers got the best of them. With 2 guys, armed with weapons on a seemingly defenseless homeless bum, despite his height, they thought they could take him and for a while, Michael let them. What the rednecks didn't count on was that Michael has superhuman strength and that he's a killer. Most homeless people are weak, unfed and unwashed, certainly meek and mild and not the violent or confrontational type. And this one happened to be mute, which the rednecks mistook for lack of intelligence. Same thing happened with the bouncer. He thought he was a badass going against a large mentally challenged, drunk bum. The bouncer made a living rousting those types. Unfortunately for all involved, Michael's a lot smarter and more vicious than they realized. "He came home." - Dr. Sam Loomis from the original HalloweeN
As you saw, they had the numbers against him, 2 or 3, if the girl decided to go along, against one. As you also saw, he didn't immediately fight back. The mentally challenged don't usually instantly go into defending themselves as quickly as others. Their thought process is slower. Hence being challenged. I'm sure you've seen and heard of the mentally challenged being abused in the news.

And they could have killed him if they wanted to. Anyone could have. When caught by surprise he was too stupid to fight back. If it hadn't been for the girl telling them to stop, he would have been killed. He was very lucky to come out of that alive.
But the question is how did they know he was mentally challenged enough to beat up in the first place. Not knowing he was a moron, they should have been intimidated by his huge size. Maybe they just assumed anyone dumb enough to be homeless would probably be too dumb to know how to defend himself.
Like I said, much like the bouncer, the two rednecks and their girl were probably used to beating people up and gained confidence or just egotistical. They could've been drunk or stupid themselves, that also gets people into trouble. In any event, they thought they could take him, but they thought wrong.

Who the hell made you a doctor? I guess you're certified to be a psychologist on human behavior. Where did you go? Harvard Med? I bet you never ran into a schizo, they're so defense in them, the violent ones are usually the aggressor.
Keep your idiot cereal box education out of here.
Don't get hurt kid. I'm not your daddy, I'll beat you senseless.
DUDE!!! ROTFLMAO!!!! Oh god, thank you. I needed a laugh after watching this. Your title alone had me busting a gut for a couple minutes here. Excellent perspective. Hi-frackin-larious!!
lol ikr???? to me, the two funniest/crappiest parts were in the 1st one where that short, scrawny guy in the mental hospital kept picking on michael and THEN opens his cell to try and rape a girl in michael's room???
but the best was when those 3 (2 guys and a girl, the one guy is on son's of anarchy) found him on their property and kept saying "i'm gonna kill you!!!" pulls out a gun from like 15-20 feet away from michael myers but instead of shooting him this short, fat guy decides to charge myers and try to tackle him???? it seems like a lot of zombies characters went full on retard for this
I can only imagine these people in their daily lives.
"Here comes that damn mail man again. I told you not to come around here anymore, boy! You want me to mess you up? I'll lay down the ace of spades and the five of clubs on your ass! Don't make me call my brothers, Cletus and Jethro over!"
I don't get how Michael went from supernaturally dead to becoming a regular joe hobo. That didn't fit right. I mean halfway thru the movie he ditches the mask and walks around town with a hood pulled over his head.
