McDowell as Loomis

I think Malcolm McDowell is great as the vain, unethical doctor Loomis.
The man never disappoints, and as much as I prefer Rob Zombie's first film to this one, I enjoyed the 80s extreme slasher-like killings in this one.

Sure, if we hadn't had Pleasence as the polar opposite of that for the previous 18 years before that. His character was tolerable in the first Rob film, but the second one crossed several lines, as was pointed out to him. Totally destroyed the root of the character. Had McDowell played someone else, he'd have been better accepted. I've never heard him talk about the second film. Just the first. Wonder how he felt about the change.

Yes, you've got a point. Loomis was very well written in the original and he was different in the first Zombie's Halloween.
However, Malcolm did a great job.

IMO he did a great job in Rob's first film. He did write a book, but he did care. He wasn't full on irredeemable. Then again, as an actor, given what he had to deal with in Halloween II he did pull it off rather well. Sometimes you have to credit them for that. McDowell is an excellent actor, don't get me wrong. His portrayal in Halloween II was more what he was written as, not a slight against him. So in that respect, you are right.

McDowell is one of my faves. I think good Horror needs more brilliant actors like him. You should check a film called Evilenko.

I'll look into thanks. Clockwork Orange is a gimme. I'm a bit of a Star Trek guy and didn't even mind him in Generations, though that's typically not his cup of tea.

Not the show, the movie. Specifically Star Trek 7 otherwise known as TNG's first feature film after Undiscovered Country. It's a pretty good movie.

I always thought he was the good 'honest' doctor to help Myers in 2007's, but seeing him here, it seems that he's just money hungry for the book sales.

His experience in the first film, near death, certainly changed him. He was pretty bad in Halloween 2007's second act, 15 years later, but he was over the top bad in all of Halloween II.

The way I saw it, Loomis turning into this goofy caricature of a vain celebrity was his way of dealing with his own trauma. I understood that. I, however, did NOT buy all the public animus towards him. He wasn't actually responsible for anything or anyone's death in the previous film. And as someone who spent 17 years treating him and then subsequently being nearly killed, why would anyone begrudge him for writing a book about it? That was too over the top for me
