Rob Zombie has turned the sequel into an actual Rob Zombie film
I like Rob Zombie and his work... and I liked his remake of "Halloween" back in 2007. I even owned this sequel "The Unrated Director's Cut" on DVD since 2009, and never bothered to watch it not until today - since I watched Rob's remake a week ago and I remembered how good it was.
I never bothered to watch the sequel because when I first got it, I used to skip through the chapters and didn't like what I saw then. I thought that he will do a complete remake of the 1981 film - but instead, I saw strange things that are not "Halloween" at all then.
Today, I wanted to watch the sequel and was wondering about the low score here on IMDB... It turned out that this film is really bad. This film actually killed his career as a horror movie director in Hollywood for good, which is a shame because this guy can be very good and appeal to most audiences if properly controlled by the studio.
Instead he gave us the usual Rob Zombie formula: Hillbillies, beards, strippers, sick demented characters... What the *beep* happened, Rob? Why stray from the first film that you made? Is it because the studio gave you full control on this one?
Dr. Loomis was excellent in the remake. Caring and passionate, even for Michael himself. In this one the guy has changed a full 180 degrees. He doesn't give a *beep* about anyone's feelings and only cares about the spotlight. How could this happen?
Michael Myers: My first thought when I watched him kill was - "That's Michael Myers on steroids. Triple the speed, power and violence". Why? Myers is supposed to walk slow, kill slow, watches people as they die. Why change him into this super killing machine? That's super Michael Myers.
Why the hell did you show his face with a full long beard? Why make him speak at the very end?
Why Why Why? I love your work, Rob... But this time you've failed. These things do not fit a "Halloween" film at all. It does fit any of your other films, but not this one.
I totally agree that the first 20 minutes of the film are the best. The "dream" sequence. Ever since Laurie woke up, it's not a Halloween film at all. It's your typical evil hillbilly slasher film, but on steroids.
Score: 6/10
