Are the Writers of V racist?

The show is apparently set in New York but the cast and the walk ons seemed to be overwhelmingly white - disproportionately so.
Similarly with the aliens. The writers also managed to kill of all the aliens who weren't white.

Here we go with another topic about race that will unite a unfriendly environment on a board that other wise should be friendly. This topic has already been covered. All you had to do was look for it which wouldn't have been hard. The only thing I will say is how is V any different then any other show out there? Just enjoy the show and stop over analyzing every little thing.

LOL... I was born black and will die black. You assume that I'm white based on my statement instead of looking at the obvious. I come on this board to talk about the show I happen to enjoy. I don't really care for getting involved or reading about race issues. Whiles race plays a major issue in America this is not the place to do anything about it. Talk about it in a place where it would make a difference. I was only pointing out to the OP that this topic will blow out of control base on prior thread about things similar to this(referring back to the thread about the way the black guy died),that whole thread turned ugly. Whiles I dislike the fact that there are not enough minorities on the show, I can't change that on the IMDB board. What the OP is doing with this thread will only open up a door for ignorant people to bash one another and show their true racist self.

Next time don't assume what race someone is base on the fact that they disagree with you on a race topic.

Nobody forced you to comment. If you don't like the thread ignore it. It would have disappeared without your input. So thanks for driving up the comments.

Why should I resurrect an old thread with conversation from the beginning of the series? I'm asking now after two seasons.

reply

I do as I chose! I have every right to comment on any post I desire. Maybe you need to disappear instead of the post you racist. Coming on her talking about the amount of blacks on the show. For you information Ryan(the black guy) died in season two which means the thread I was referring to was recent. Furthermore the blacks as you called them died out in season two and not the beginning like you suggested. Know your facts before you come at me you ignorant *bleep*hole.

reply

I do as I chose! I have every right to comment on any post I desire.

I have ever right as well. I was just suggesting if you don't like the topic, why post?

Maybe you need to disappear instead of the post you racist.

Oh so now i'm a racist because I don't conform to your point of view? Because I'm asking about why the writers of V seem intent on only having white characters?

Furthermore the blacks as you called them died out in season two and not the beginning like you suggested.

I called them not white. I didn't call them blacks. You are confusing me with someone else. I asked about the not white characters over the course of the show, not just the blacks as you call them.

Know your facts before you come at me you ignorant *bleep*hole.
Back at ya.

reply

Here we go with another pathetic apologist who claims to be a minority but is stupid enough to act like racial issues no longer exist.

Go sit in the corner and shut up. You don't belong in discussions like these. Morons like you are why forward progression takes longer than it should.

if you are looking at a bunch of people (in this instance, the actors of the show) and the first math you do in your head is comparative percentage of
a) their sexes
b) their races
c) their heights

you are more likely to be a subconscious
a) sexist
b) racist
c) heightist

just throwing it out there...

reply

How is for you over there in the twilight zone?

reply

@raeb...

You achieve you goal by starting this thread you and the poster before you are stupid *bleep* you can fill in the blank....hint hint...

reply

Yeah this has been a very covered topic, though one thing I do like to point out is how this is a huge step down from the original V. Not only is the original V better in tone and atmosphere but they also made a point to not have every character be a good looking white person. There were Blacks (represented by Elias and Caleb), Hispanics (Sancho), Asian (Tony), Jewish (The Bernstein family, not counting Daniel though) and there was even the elderly and disabled all getting involved. That was a huge point in the original and one that the new one blissfully misses out on. And its good that there have been Black characters, Oh and I'm Hispanic from NYC and the one Hispanic there was killed off at the end of Season 1 and her character ended up being Black. And the main actress though from Brazil is playing an alien. Given the huge Hispanic presence in NYC, well where exactly is my representation or do we still believe that all Hispanics stay to the West Coast?

From now on I speak my mind and I bow down to no one.

reply

Hispanics and Blacks aren't matter to them since they have nothing to offer. They need no votes for elections or an unqualified labor force, they need resources which can only be provided by white people and asians. Or how many black or hispanic nobel prize winner do you know?

reply

Very funny, especially since there have quite a few Hispanic Noble Prize winners. But if your talking about in science well there at least two.

RAMON Y CAJAL, Santiago, Spain, Medicine and Physiology, 1906.

BENACERRAF, Baruj, Venezuela, Medicine and Physiology, 1980

From now on I speak my mind and I bow down to no one.

reply

How many in physics?

And in consideration that there are more brownies than white ppl on this planet...

Again if you don't like this thread, you don't need to post. You seem to be intent on trolling this thread. It seems like you have nothing better to do.

reply

No, America is :) I'm guessing that a lot of market research goes into shows like this. This seems like one of those shows that was designed to just make advertising dollars, so they probably sculpted almost every facet of the show from researching their target market. Their target market is obviously ignorant middle-class rednecks that aren't afraid to bust out their credit cards to buy truck-nuts.

Just kidding. Kind of...

To be honest, it always catches me a little off guard to see a cast that is predominantly black. I was raised, and live in an almost exclusive white small town. Whenever I see black people, it catches me off guard. When I go to a store or something in a city, and almost everyone around me is black, I feel a little uncomfortable. I'm not racist. It's just a subconscious thing that is a result from the environment I've been in most of my life. All I can do is recognize that my feelings are irrational, and make sure they don't affect my thoughts, actions, and perceptions. I think it's safe to say that many other people that have grew up in a similar environments aren't as diligent in trying to think and act rationally. Even though they might not be intentionally racist, having a cast that is in large part black might subconsciously turn them off to the show.

If shows do make decisions like this, they're doing a large disservice to society. But that's the way she goes.

reply

Here I thought all the white people were cast as part of some Affirmative Action quota now that Whites are a minority in New York. Guess I was wrong.

They MUST be destroyed on sight!

reply

That's pathetic.

reply

Hey. I'm just telling the truth. No fronting here. The human mind is built for generalizing. Generalization is probably the brain's most important feature. Without generalization we'd be crippled by "analysis paralysis." The environment we grow up in effects how and what we generalize about. It's not unreasonable to think that a person that grows up in a place where he doesn't come into contact with people of different ethnicities would be prone to certain generalizations. People just have to be vigilant and make an effort to think hard about some of the generalizations the environment has conditioned them to be prone to.

Assuming you've spent most of your life in an urban area, I'm sure you have certain generalizations about people who live in rural areas, like say, the deep south, or Alaska.

reply

Actually I grew up in an area full of rednecks and somehow don't suffer from your retardation.

That was your choice, not some product of your environment. Stop posting pseudo-intellectual garbage to try and cover up or excuse your prejudice.

reply

I'm not prejudice... Not consciously, at least. If you say you don't, at least subconsciously, associate things with they way people look, you're lying. It's human nature. There's loads of research to back this up as well. You, yourself, used the word "redneck" which is a generalization, and implies prejudice.

reply

No it's not human nature and you're a moron. Cry more.

I have to agree with the OP. All the Hebrew Actors of the Show have been written off the only closest to one left is Anna's Character, and she is a Villain.

reply

jesus christ does race have to be brought into *beep* evrything. It's a *beep* TV show. You sound like that nitwit on Survivor last night.

reply

Who is Jesus Christ? If you are going to refer to the Messiah's Name then at least say his True name which is Yashua Emmanuel. You can also google that!

reply

oh my god that is pathetic, do you actually hear what your thinking or what, one of the main characters is black

go and watch stomp the yard if you want to see racist writers

reply

Which main Character is a Hebrew? They written off Morris Chestnut's Character his own Daughter in the Show betrayed, and killed him, and joined forces with Anna after he did what he could to save her life.

you're welcome Mr. Sharpton

Yet another IMDb board about racism!! Is there anything on the television that's NOT racist to some people?

reply

Nobody is forcing you to comment. If you don't like the topic just walk on by. Thanks for bringing it to the top of the forum again.

America is Racist so there is no way around it! This Country before the Euro-Imperalism Pirates captured it, and made it their own was originally called Anowarkowa aka Turtle Island by the Natives before it was renamed America...however the latter name instead on Anowarkowa is widely accepted. Racism at it's best!

reply

I often watch Chinese shows but get this nagging feeling that they're racist as all the characters are Chinese!

Imagine that.

OP seems to have a closed view and possible issues. Shame

I don't think Ryan is dead. If there's a third season we'll see. And his daughter is still alive. So lets wait before jump to conclusions. And if Ryan is indeed dead maybe there will be some other black actor or actress in main role in S3.
