LOL @ Hollywood and Tracy Pollan's 'Southern' Accent!

I've seen the previews on LMN where Ms. Twitty, Natalee's mother is played by Tracy Pollan and you can tell she faked her "Southern" accent. When she says the word "crime" twice as in "help me find the persons responsible for this crime...(paraphrasing) you can tell she overdoes it while trying to empahsize "crime." In trying too hard she comes off as obvious and phony.

She says the word crime as "cr-I-I-me" her coaches probably told her to drop vowels and hold the "I" and in trying to do so, fell flat on her face because they literally don't mean drop vowels, they mean in tone drop them rather then emphasize them. She almost does it backwards.

She also says the word "daughter" like it looks and how she probably grew up saying it, but in the South it would be "dA-a-ugt-er" or "dA-aw-ter" and this shows more poor teaching/coaching/delivering.

I can't wait to see how else she obviously stumbles in this film as this lack of attention to detail is disturbing, lazy, and probably rampantly typical and that's sad. Its obvious either she went cheap on the diction coach or she hasn't actually traveled or lived in the South enough and thought she could wing it.

Funniest part of all is Pollan is a Long Island, NY native (or should I say LOOOO-ng Island :) ) and even before reading her IMDB profile I said to myself "wouldn't it be funny if she was from New York" since a lot of Hollywood is and lo-and behold she was! Her screwing up the accent was the whole reason that made me want to find out where she was born or at least lived.

C' mon Hollywood, you can do better. Tom Hanks is a native of Concord, California and his Forrest Gump accent was spot-on especially when you consider he was supposed to be A. rural and B. born around early 1950 Alabamy. He did his homework, but then again he's a better, more polished actor thus more credible.

Doesn't really matter though since Hollywood are anti Southern idiots who think everyone in Alabamy are rednecks anyway.
