it was Natalee's fault is completely unbelievable!

Yes, she drank, but what 18 year old doesn't?

Sure, she shouldn't have gotten in the car but it's complete *beep* that people are saying "she was asking for it/it was her fault", etc.

That's exactly like saying a girl wearing a short skirt and tight top is asking to get raped. It's disgusting.

The blame is completely on the bastard/s who killed her; not on her, or her mother, the chaperones, her friends or anyone else.

I never drank myself into a stupor at 18. In fact, I can honestly say I have never drank myself into a stupor. And no, I not a "goody-goody" or someone that preaches about the dangers of drinking. I just like to have control over myself and my actions, and I believe people are responsible for their own actions. so yes, I believe that bu drinking herself into a stupor, she was at least partly responsible for what happened to her.

Or do you think drunks should not be held responsible for what they do (including murdering innocent people due to a car accident they cause) while drunk?

There's a difference between drinking, and drinking and driving. The second they make the choice to get behind the wheel everything changes- of course they're responsible if an accident should happen.

The same holds true no matter what a person does while drinking. A person has a choice at any point to say "no, I had enough". Natalee chose to drink herself into a stupor that night. She is responsible for that, and choices she made in that stupor.

How incredibly insensitive you are tutormom93. So YOU didn't do this and YOU didn't do that. Irrelevant, completely. YOU aren't the one who has lost a loved one nor are you the victim. May you never have to be, because only then would you begin to understand.

I do not believe that Natalee was responsible for her own death, but it is nonsensical to believe that she can be absolved of all responsibility in every circumstance.

Responsibilities come in different forms. Every individual is accountable for his or her self. You have a right not to be raped or murdered, but it is illogical to believe that a predator is going to respect those rights. You cannot control the actions of others, but you can control your own. That means not drinking yourself into intoxication, which then leads to impaired decision-making.

Certainly Natalee did not ask to be murdered, but she did not take responsibility for herself in guaranteeing her the safety of her person. Joran is responsible for her death, and he will always bear the bigger brunt of the fault, but Natalee is responsible for denying herself the safety of her well-being. I believe this is what people are trying to say (albeit in a poor manner) when they say Natalee is at fault.

She drank to excess - was constantly drinking - was travelling with drunk strangers at 1.30 am in the morning in a foreign country. She was no innocent. No one deserves to be killed, but her end was not really a surprise. Now Meredith Kercher was a truly innocent girl. Yet the jaundiced American press find every excuse to treat her killer as an innocent victim, and to ignore the real victim.

She wasn't just ''drunk'' she was messed up on party drugs. She was out of her head when she got into the car and maybe not even able to walk up straight. Shame on her ''friends'' for not intervening and taking her home. Poor thing.
