shareSeason 1, episode 11. What was the point of that?

No I'm invested in the main plot line and sub plots, and I'm tired of episodes that literally have nothing to do with anything.
And I love it, "pointless entertainment" haha!

A few things:
-They are funny
-Even though nothing "significant" you can see little stuff in the background(re-watch value), some of them references to other eps. which gives the feel of the world being a real place and it shows effort(to me at least)
-As Doug Walker says(from AT vlogs) these episodes allow characters to "breathe" - we get to see them in everyday/random situations and learn little things about them and hence get to know them better.
If you enjoy the show and it's characters you should enjoy the non-plotline(is this a word?) episodes. I see your frustration as I too love the story/world developing episodes and they make me the most excited, but I wouldn't go as far to say that I'm tired of the other ones. If anything else they still remain fun and random and deserve at least the one viewing on that alone.
Now, I don't know you and I could be completely wrong, but to me if you say you are frustrated with some episodes, only because they are pointless to the main/sub-plots you are not appreciating the show for what it is. Oh, and BMO Lost=best episode :D
Wait. There's a main plot?

I mostly love the pointless episodes, they're what got me hooked on the show to begin with. The heavier, plot-significant episodes came as more of a pleasant surprise. Not all of the silly ones are great, but I love their absurdity and how not every episode tries to pack in a big plot point, lesson, etc.
I do agree about Rebecca Sugar and her songs, though. The show definitely took a hit when she left.

Like others have already said this show is primarily random and "pointless" episodes with little to no connection between them with episodes that follow a story being the minority and not the norm. However, it does seem like it's trending towards following more of a storyline, which I personally am not a fan of.
shareIt's supposed to have useless episodes. It's based on D&D games, you think every D&D campaign ever played didn't have side missions or characters that ran off to do their own thing or have their own fun? Play it all from point one and tell me how it isn't a classic dice rolling style experience of WTFery. The random epic awesomeness is what makes it the *beep* Love it bother and just enjoy.
shareWhile I prefer the plot-based episodes to be sure, I can't really begrudge Adventure Time for having stand-alone episodes, I can just praise it for having episodes that leave genuine impact.
Keep in mind, this is a show for everyone.... kids don't want to switch on a random episode and be totally confused. How many shows of this kind (not that there are many shows of its kind) have as much plot as it already has?
I'd say Adventure Time finds a great balance.... actually, so does Regular Show.

It's pretty typical for people to become outraged at any criticism of something they really like, but I kind of agree with you to a point. I wouldn't say I'm getting tired of the other episodes, but I definitely prefer the ones that develop the story further.
(The second step in the criticism outrage is to defend the outrage by pointing out minor things that supposedly annoy them, while steadfastly holding onto their original outrage.)
I think the reason for the 6th season negativity is that us fans got spoiled on having a lot of story arc episodes. Particulary in the 4th and 5th seasons. There's also too much of a span between cannon episodes and the stand alones. I like the stand alone episodes but those are mostly from the earlier seasons.
Also, in my opinion, they are introducing so many new characters to the point where it is becoming very bloated and that is usually the death knell to a TV show. It's like running out of ideas for the current cast. Right now I could give a crap about Rattleballs, Root Beer Guy, Breakfast Princess, etc. My solution would be to develop what you got then intro new characters in small incraments and not having entire episodes dedicated to a new character that won't be seen again until seasons later (Ancient Psychic Tandem War Elephan for example)
The gripes about Finn and Jake popping up in these new episodes just to disappear in a matter of a minute or two is understandable. Are the fans being trolled? It sure seems that way to me.
If you think Pantera is good music, you married your cousin and your retarded son's name is Cletus
My problem with the recent episodes, is not that the show has abandoned the plot, because there was little of that to begin with, I remember the earlier episodes being about Finn and Jake walking on random adventures, and that seemed to do it for me.
What worked was that we got used to the characters Finn and Jake, got to know their different personalities, and how their friendship seemed to work out. It was entertaining to watch a boy and a dog say stuff like "homies help homies" while fighting dragons and encountering new and entertaining people of the Land of Oo.
While random episodes are fine, in season 6 it seems the writers has decided to go out of their way to make every little excuse to center the show around something entirely new. It's not annoying if it happens once in a while, but it was Finn and Jake that made the show work originally, their reactions to things and their companionship.
So I agree fully with OP, the show need to focus on Finn and Jake again, or at least include them more. And if it has to be other characters, can we at least have some characters we already know, instead of introducing Jake's Nose as a circus artist or a worm's butt as an adventurer?
Does anyone remember Lemon Hope saying something fun? Was Jake's Nose that entertaining? At least give us some characters we can adapt to...
